AI, Cybercrime and Global Uncertainty: AILO CEO Summit Tackles the Issues Shaping International Life
In an era where technological transformation, geopolitical tension and regulatory complexity converge, the Association of International Life Offices (AILO) held its annual CEO Summit in London to explore these forces reshaping the cross-border life sector.
Hosted at the Canary Wharf offices of Associate Member HSBC Asset Management, the Summit brought together senior executives from across Europe’s leading international life jurisdictions including Luxembourg, Ireland, the Isle of Man and Liechtenstein. The event formed part of AILO’s continued commitment to deliver high-value insight, education and representation to its Members through strategic collaboration and shared intelligence.
Setting the tone for a dynamic agenda, Brian Walsh of Reitigh, an Ireland based software provider, showcased how Agentic AI is already driving operational transformation across life insurance by streamlining data extraction and automating complex manual processes. His presentation demonstrated how emerging technologies can offer not only cost-efficiency but also competitive advantage in a sector under pressure to modernise.
A stark reminder of the risks associated with digital progress followed, as cybercrime expert Geert Baudewijns of Secutec exposed the growing threat landscape in a session titled “Navigating in Dark.” Drawing on his personal involvement in more than 500 cyber extortion cases, Baudewijns revealed the inner workings of criminal networks and shared real-world lessons for industry leaders tasked with safeguarding customer data and reputational trust.
The global macroeconomic outlook took centre stage with HSBC Asset Management’s Chief Strategist Joe Little delivering an insightful review, using recent song titles, to illustrate the current state of global investment markets and the ‘New Rules’ that now apply following Trump-led changes in the US. His analysis explored the ripple effects of shifting US policy and the renewed focus on localised growth and capital deployment in European markets.
Closing the agenda, AILO’s Head of Proposition, Simon Willoughby, unveiled the association’s recently refreshed brand. Demonstrating AILO’s new website and secure Member Zone, he outlined how the organisation has evolved to support its Members more effectively in a maturing but increasingly complex international market. The rebrand, underpinned by the new purpose statement “Championing Life,” signals AILO’s continued drive to be a proactive, unifying force in the sector.
Bob Pain, AILO CEO, commented:
“The international life industry is facing transformative pressure—from AI and cybercrime to changing regulatory and economic environments. But it is also a moment of opportunity. The Summit embodied what AILO stands for: forward-looking collaboration, fearless conversation, and a united commitment to raising standards and realising potential across our global community.”
The day concluded with informal networking over drinks and dinner, offering a valuable opportunity for candid peer exchange—one of AILO’s hallmarks in fostering trusted, cross-jurisdictional relationships.
